Lighting Installation & Design in West Palm Beach, FL

Good lighting is the cheapest renovation there is. The same room with a proper recessed layout, a dimmer, and the right color temperature feels larger, cleaner, and more expensive — without moving a wall. Nassif Electric has been wiring South Florida homes and businesses since 1976. We plan lighting layouts, install fixtures of every kind, convert old fixtures to LED, and handle the circuits and controls behind them. We're a Florida statewide licensed unlimited electrical contractor (License EC13001410), licensed, insured, and bonded.

Our Lighting Services

Recessed Lighting Installation

New recessed lighting (also called can lights) in existing ceilings, with a layout planned around the room rather than spaced on a guess. We cut, wire, and patch cleanly, use the right trims for the application, and put the lights on dimmers where it makes sense. In older South Florida homes we also check the attic conditions and insulation contact rating before specifying anything.

Light Fixture & Chandelier Installation

Pendants, sconces, flush mounts, and chandeliers — including two-story foyer installations that need lifts and proper support boxes. We install fixtures you bought anywhere: a showroom, online, or your designer’s source. We also replace fixtures the ceiling box can’t safely carry, which is more common than people expect with heavy chandeliers.

LED Retrofit & Lighting Upgrades

Converting old fixtures, cans, and fluorescent troffers to LED cuts energy use and heat, which matters when you’re cooling a house eleven months a year. We retrofit existing housings where that works and replace them where it doesn’t, and we pay attention to color temperature and dimmer compatibility — the two things that make a cheap LED job look cheap.

Under-Cabinet, Cove & Accent Lighting

Kitchen under-cabinet lighting, cove and tray-ceiling lighting, toe-kick and stair lighting, art and display lighting. These are the details that make a room look professionally finished.

Landscape & Outdoor Lighting

Path, uplighting, and façade lighting, pool deck and pool cage lighting, dock and seawall lighting, security and motion lighting. Everything outdoors here has to stand up to salt air and summer storms, so we use corrosion-resistant fixtures, proper transformers, and GFCI protection where code requires it.

Ceiling Fans

Fan installation and replacement, including rated boxes for fan support, remote and wall controls, and high-ceiling installs. In Florida a good fan reduces what your AC has to do.

Smart & Dimmable Lighting Controls

Dimmers, scenes, timers, occupancy sensors, and app or voice control. See our [Smart Home Automation] page for whole-home systems.

Commercial Lighting

Office, retail, warehouse, and parking-lot lighting, LED retrofits, emergency and exit lighting, and lighting for tenant build-outs. See our [Industrial & Commercial Power Solutions] page.

Lighting Design: Planning Before Wiring

Most bad lighting isn’t bad fixtures — it’s bad planning. A room lit by one central fixture has glare in your eyes and shadows where you work. We plan in layers:

  • Ambient: general light that fills the room evenly, usually recessed or a central fixture.
  • Task: light where you actually do things — counters, desks, reading chairs, vanities.
  • Accent: art, architecture, shelving, landscape features.
  • Decorative: the fixtures you see and choose for looks.

We also get the unglamorous details right: color temperature kept consistent room to room (2700K–3000K for most living spaces), dimmers matched to the LED driver so they don’t flicker or buzz, beam angles chosen for ceiling height, and spacing that avoids the “runway” look. If you’re working with an interior designer, we’ll build to their plan and handle the electrical side.

Quoted per project

*Estimates for planning only, and they exclude fixtures. Prices depend on ceiling height and construction, attic access, existing circuits, and patching. Your exact price comes from a written quote.

What drives the cost: ceiling height and type (drywall, plaster, concrete, wood), attic or crawl access, whether a new circuit or switch leg is needed, dimmer type, fixture weight and support, and drywall patching and paint.

Does Your Panel Have Room?

A large lighting project usually means new circuits. If your panel is full, or your home is still on 100 amp service, that comes up quickly. We’ll tell you during the quote, not halfway through the job. See our [200 amp panel upgrade] and [sub-panel installation] pages.

Permits & Code

Swapping a fixture for a similar one generally doesn’t require a permit. Adding circuits, moving or adding switch locations, running new wiring, and most landscape lighting with a new transformer circuit do. Florida also has specific requirements for wet and damp locations, GFCI protection outdoors and near water, and clearances around pools and spas. We pull permits where they’re required and build to code either way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Retrofitting recessed lights into an existing ceiling usually runs $150 to $300 per light, and a typical room of six to eight lights with a new circuit and dimmer runs about $1,200 to $2,800. Ceiling type, attic access, and patching are the biggest variables.

It depends on ceiling height, room size, and what the room is for — not a fixed rule. A common starting point is spacing lights about half the ceiling height apart, then adjusting for furniture layout, work areas, and the fixtures’ beam angle. We lay it out before cutting anything.

Yes. We install fixtures purchased from showrooms, online, or supplied by your designer. We’ll tell you up front if a fixture needs a different box, support, or dimmer than what’s there.

Yes. Those installations need the right lift equipment and a properly rated support box, and often a winch or cable system so the fixture can be lowered for cleaning. We handle both the mounting and the electrical work.

In South Florida, usually yes. LEDs use far less energy and produce much less heat, which reduces what your air conditioning has to remove. The savings are largest in rooms with many fixtures and long hours of use, and in commercial spaces.

Almost always a dimmer and driver mismatch. Older dimmers were built for incandescent loads. We specify LED-compatible dimmers matched to the fixtures, which solves nearly all flicker and buzz complaints.

For most living areas, 2700K to 3000K gives a warm, residential look. Kitchens and work areas sometimes go slightly cooler. The important part is consistency — mixing color temperatures in the same sightline is what makes lighting look wrong.

Replacing a fixture usually doesn’t. Adding circuits, moving switches, running new wiring, or adding outdoor lighting circuits generally does. We handle permits when they’re required.

Often, yes. Retrofit recessed housings, surface-mount LEDs, and under-cabinet lighting can be installed with minimal cutting, and we patch what we open. We’ll tell you honestly where a clean install needs drywall work.

Yes — path and uplighting, façade lighting, pool deck and screen enclosure lighting, and dock lighting, using corrosion-resistant fixtures and the GFCI protection required near water.
